On checking in, they gave us a very poor room with zero view. The bell captain was very kind and arranged for an upgrade in view and size of room for no additional price. This was great and earned a princely tip. Contrary to other comments about parking, self parking was not all that inconvenient. The staff were all helpful and friendly. Laundry room very convenient and there is a health facility, albeit, a little small. Includes a whirlpool and sauna (sauna was out of service for the 5 days were were there..). Around the corner was a GREAT and very popular restaurant for roti and satay, as well as numerous Chinese restaurants. Only beef was the internet charges. I selected 24 hour access from room which was charged at $* - which I think is too high. The nasty surprise was on check out they had charged additional minutes. Seems if you turn off your computer and sign back on they charge per minute and per megabyte even though you have paid the full $* for 24 hour access. Pity that in their greed to rake you over the coals for every penny they can get for internet, they spoil the final impressiion of the whole stay. I think a good hotel should provide internet at very low rates ($10 or less) and stop the gouging and nickle/diming. My wife and I prefer a firm mattress. The mattress provided by this hotel is very soft.

Holiday Inn Darling Harbour is in a good location: it sits on the edge of Chinatown and is within walking distance of Paddy's Market, Darling Harbour's restaurants and shopping, and Public Transit. Throughout 2009, Darling Harbour is celebrating it's 21st Anniversary, so there were fireworks over the harbour on the weekends and great shopping/dining deals. The hotel lobby, restaurant and bar are clean and updated. The rooms have not been updated and did have a few maintanence issues. However, when we mentioned our concerns, the Housekeeping Manager was at our door within a half hour to address every concern we had. When we returned that evening, everthing had been repaired or cleaned. We loved that all the beds were Twin so everyone had their own bed. My mother had an electric scooter to get around, but due to the amount of rain every day, was unable to use it. The hotel lent us a wheelchair to use for our entire stay at no extra charge. The concierge was great: maps, reservations, suggestions, time schedules, coupons, etc. But they also went above and beyond, searching the internet for an Italian Restaurant that delivered late in the evening. The hotel has a restaurant with a reasonably priced Hot Breakfast Buffet and the bar serves light meals late into the evening. The elevator requires a room key to move beyond the lobby which made us feel very safe. Checkin and Checkout were a very smooth and quick process.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn at Darling Harbour and found that it was located in a great area of Sydney. I was a block and a half from Paddy's Market where I could be reasonable gifts. The room was very nice, not much of a view but I was not in the room long enough for that to matter. This hotel was located in the Chinatown area and there were plenty of restaurants to choice from. This was the best possible location for what I was doing.

i kinda disappointed staying here, the room is old and the location is hard to find , is a one way street .. is you plan to have a car while you are in sydney, staying in this hotel is not a good idea.. and parking is not in the same building, you have to walk a block away after you pay $ and park your car in the parking garage. ...also breakfast in not included, so you end up paying more than you staying in three stars hotel. The good part, the staff are friendly.
